The simple act of writing down what you eat each day can double your weight-loss efforts, according to a study of 1700 people by Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research in the US.

The participants who kept daily records of their food consumption, in conjunction with striving for a heart-healthy diet and doing regular exercise, lost twice as much weight as those who kept no records.
